Between Wapping and Aldgate is the Leman Street Tavern , a 1.5 million pound pub that's owned by the Geronimo Inns group and, like the rest of the family, manages to successfully bring the British pub into the 21st century, reimagining it as a contemporary bar with good food and a welcoming atmosphere. There's a dining area in the pub adjoining Goodman's Fields, a large development of luxury flats, as well as plenty of space for big comfy sofas for those just wanting a drink. Serving food from breakfast to supper, choices include smashed avocado on sourdough, served from 8am until 11am, and bar snacks like black pudding sausage roll and baked Camembert with buttered soldiers. They also run special events - a recent evening of Japanese whisky tasting and ice carving , for example, was held in The Chambers, the 24-seat private room also available to hire.
