It may look like a cinema from the sign outside but Ruby's on the Stoke Newington/Dalston border is an intimate subterranean drinking den serving expertly mixed cocktails. Set up by Tom Gibson in the former kitchen of a Chinese takeaway, Ruby's is a hip place to hang out - described as "our favourite east London hideaway" by fashion bible Vogue, no less. The stripped back room where cocktails are created from syrups made on site has a Mayfair bar and the atmosphere of an old fashioned London pub. But cocktails are the thing here and there are 14 to choose from, including seasonal and classic mixes, as well as Pressure Point Ale, Brooklyn lager and fine wines.
