Ten years ago The Palace Cinema, a magnificent Art Deco creation by the great cinema architect George Coles, was derilict, and scheduled for demolition. Rescued and renamed by local businessman Surjit Phander, it reopened in 2001 as the finest place in London to see the latest Bollywood blockusters. The noisily appreciative locals and amazing building add a real flavour of the sub-continent to the movie-going experience. It also shows a full program of mainstream Hollywood films.
