Following a five-year redevelopment Riverside Studios, Hammersmith's historic 86-year-old arts centre reveals its new multi-million-pound building. Reopening in three phases, first to launch in November 2019 was Studio 8 Cafe and Bar which joined the already open Sam's Riverside. At the same time, the Riverside Artists Group presented an exhibition celebrating their return to the building. In January 2020, you can catch a play at one of the smaller of the two theatre spaces, Studio 3 which has tiered seating for 200, and see films at the two state of the art cinemas. The films - selected by the artistic director of film at HOME in Manchester - focus on independent cinema with festivals and seasons that continue the spirit of the much loved cinema that used to stand here. March 2020 sees the final public areas in the building open. The second performance space, Studio 2 can seat up to 450 people while Studio 5 is a rehearsal room that can also host community events and workshops. Much like its previous incarnation, the new building offers a little bit of everything under its roof, including a cinema, cafe and studio theatre. But as well as having the latest technology and a brand new building, the big difference is the opening up the riverside path and maxing out those beautiful views over Hammersmith Bridge and the Thames.
