Visitor Information
Famous watering hole favoured by Samuel Pepys, this historic pub is where William Hogarth made his famous sketches and even today quenches the thirst of A-list celebrities, Sienna Miller and Jude Law among them. It takes its name from the popular actress Nell Gwynne who famously courted King Charles II here when it was called the Bull Inn. It is one of the last traditional boozers left in central London and recent threats to shut it down and turn it into a fire escape for a proposed office block have been met with outrage and a petition on the Downing Street website (go to www.petitions.pm.gov.uk/savethenell). It would be a crying shame to see this significant part of London's drinking history unceremoniously bulldozed.
