The Bald Faced Stag has been furnished with a combination of traditional and modern features. The walls are decorated with bold wallpaper or painted in contemporary tones with wall lamps and old prints of the local area. The dining room features sunken lamps, chandeliers and booth seating. The food, which is worthy of a restaurant review, ranges from pub classics like sausages and mash or fish and chips with mushy peas to European inspired dishes such as chargrilled squid with chorizo and sweet peppers. The Sunday roast – featuring roast rib of Irish Hereford with Yorkshire pudding and horseradish or roast loin of Gloucester Old Spot with apple sauce… with raspberry shortcake or Stinking Bishop to follow – is a particularly appealing reward after a long walk in the nearby Hampstead Heath.
Through the dining room’s double doors, it also boasts a very substantial beer garden set around an old sycamore tree which will be a great spot as soon as the weather improves.
