Opened in 2008, The Star of Bethnal Green has been a landmark of the London pub scene for a decade and has undergone a total refurbishment for its 10th birthday. Set up by Rob Star, promoter of the legendary Mulletover parties, the soundsystem is excellent. Live bands and club-nights are mostly drawn from the Shoreditch scene, which means lots of cutting-edge electronic sounds, and genre mingling. Big sofas and decent food make it a comfortable daytime chillout for trendy locals. Quirky spaces available to hire include a gypsy caravan hidden under the stairs, a refurbished upstairs bar area and the private karaoke room, complete with a stage to perform your favourite tunes on.
