An excellent gastropub, with a menu of truly delightful English and Mediterranean dishes. The Cumberland is the only decent pub within a mile radius, a friendly place with likeable staff and lots of regulars who come for the drink and the board games.
The menu is seasonal and ever-changing, and, though pretty steep for a pub, superb value for restaurant food of this quality. There are some flashy dishes, but mostly it sticks firmaly to pub standards, produced in huge portions. Great ingredients and simple, rich flavours make this a very satisfying pub supper indeed. There's a good selection of wines and beers as well, and an atmosphere that is nicely pitched halfway between local boozer and destination restaurant.
