In spite of all the Russian billionaires, the King's Road remains the home of a kind of blazer-wearing boarding school Britishness, which Jimmy's does everything it can to support. The menu chosen by Marco Pierre White is packed with school canteen treats like macaroni cheese (in this case enlivened by truffle and a poached egg), fish 'n' chips and knickerbocker glory. The latter is a truly spectacular confection, and a welcome relief from the terrible seriousness of many such Ramsay-inspired British restaurants. Service is also impressive, and the simple, modern decor suits the place well (in spite of some GCSE-standard art on the walls). These are slightly steep prices for such plain cooking, but easily forgiveable for the sake of a faultless cottage pie and that wonderful knickerbocker glory.
