Highly rated as a gastropub, The Havelock just off Brook Green is well known in these back streets of West London. Popular with the locals, last time we were here we spotted local celebrity Stephen Merchant propping up the bar. The food deserves its reputation as good quality nosh but, thankfully, this doesn't detract from the fact that the Havelock is still very much a pub - no table bookings here. So if you're only in the mood for a pint, there's no being treated like a second class citizen. Under the same management team since it re-opened as a gastropub April 1996, the standard has remained consistently high (interrupted only by a fire in 2008). The only slight annoyance is that they only accept cash or an old fashioned cheque - flashing your plastic won't impress here.
