As a pub for locals, this small award winning pub in Highgate was voted the best pub in the country at the 2018 John Smith's Great British Pub Awards, the Oscars for the pub industry. It has just 14 tables but offers a friendly welcome to newcomers and you'll soon feel like this is only one of several visits you've made to the Red Lion and Sun. With two beer gardens, front and back, the privately owned pub offers a convivial spot for outdoor drinking in the warmer months but has a wood burning fire to create a cosy atmosphere when it's cold outside. The daily changing menu of freshly prepared and cooked dishes, quality wines and extensive choice of whisky add to the appeal but the gastropub edge doesn't encroach on the drinkers here, with a happy lack of pretension.
