Tucked into a quiet corner near Lincoln's Inn Fields, The White Swan is an absolute delight. The owners, Tom and Ed Martin, also run The Gun out in the Docklands and in 2017 remodelled this popular Chancery Lane gastropub into a traditional chophouse. M eat is king and nose to tail eating is the thing, using heritage breeds from Cornish cockerel and White Park cattle, to Iron Age pigs, wild deer from Suffolk and kid goats from Devon. Sweetbreads, liver and kidneys are served along with on the bone 45-day-aged steak and fallow deer rack with kale and redcurrant jelly. Whilst very much a meaterie, The White Swan also offers responsibly sourced fish and shellfish from south coast day boats, seen in choices like Brixham gurnard with confit fennel, and St Mary's Bay lemon sole, grilled or meuniere. The upstairs dining room is stately and beautiful, with huge high ceilings and rich dark wood trim. Below is the ground floor pub where crispy pigs' ears, sausage rolls and black pudding croquettes go well with wine, craft brews, draught ales, stout and cider.
