MasterChef 2005 winner Thomasina Miers opened her third branch of Wahaca in Canary Wharf in November 2009 following the successes of her first two restaurants in Covent Garden and at Westfield London. The simple fare of the Mexican market is the mainstay on a menu that uses traditional ingredients, but instead of travelling to South America for them (that would be bad), most are locally sourced - which is good. You may be surprised to learn that they use habanero chillies from not so far away in Devonshire. This Canary Wharf branch has seating for 150 and overlooks a rare green space with its second floor terrace ideal for sunny lunches. Bread-based dishes include tacos and taquitos, quesadillas and burritos which can be followed by churros y chocolate for an indulgent dessert. The light wood interior and tins of non-perishable goods decorating the walls make for a fun, buzzy atmosphere and the fact that you can't book makes it more of an impromptu place - well, you wouldn't be able to book at a Mexican market either.
