Dove and Son
Bob Dove runs an excellent family butcher's where Clapham locals have been coming since 1899. A true family business, it was started by the present owner's great grandfather. The friendly staff always have good banter and advise well on which cuts suit which dishes. Highly recommended are the free-range pork, Ridings Reserve beef, particularly the 28-day hung ribeye, and lamb from Yorkshire. The homemade pies, made by on-site chef Jo Hopwood, free of preservatives and colouring are a meaty treat too, and they're excellent for keeping the freezer stocked up. He also prepares made to order Wellingtons, duck confit and casseroles for specials occasions which can be delivered to your door. Bronze Turkeys and free range geese are available in the run-up to Christmas when the queues - which are large enough on any given weekend - really show the shop's popularity.
