From coasters and trays to mouse mats and mugs, Ella Doran has designs on everyday objects, intent on turning them from functional to funky. In fact, her distinctive printed coasters were recently voted by Elle Decoration as one of their Top 100 British Iconic Products. Walking into her shop on Cheshire Street is like going into a candy store but without the calories. Flower covered cushions and brightly striped mugs make great ideas for gifts - so it's lucky she has even designed the paper to wrap them up in. High profile design projects include a gift range for the Tate gallery, a 'Design Your Own Tray' competition at Selfridges and products for John Lewis - the shoe stationery products she designed for them won her the Eureka award in 2006, chosen by Design Nation in conjunction with the Design Council. We can't help agreeing with the judges on this one, we give her designs top marks too.
