For a shop that has such a good selection of jazz, Honest Jon's also offers various other types of music on vinyl and CD. In particular, it carries a massive selection of Soul and Reggae.
The shop has, in fact, played a part in Reggae history. It was the first place in London ever to employ a Rastafarian shop assistant. It was also a hang-out for all the Rocksteady era London greats. When Punks and Mods caught on to Ska and Reggae it was to this shop that they came. After Elvis Costello had changed his name he wrote his first ever cheque in here for a brand new edition of 'Housewives' Choice'.
Yes indeed, Honest Jon's is a slice of music history, a friendly hang out and a wicked shop all in one. Their range is truly eclectic and unusual. Unfortunately, you won't be able to listen through the music yourself, they will have to put it on for you.
