Roots and Shoots is a charitable organisation set up 25 years ago to help disadvantaged young people from Lambeth and Southwark prepare for the world of work. Now the eco-training centre, plant nursery, shop, Wildlife Study Centre and Wild Garden helps young people from nursery, primary and special schools, teaching them about the biodiversity of insect, plant and bird life. Located on Walnut Tree Walk, off the west side of Kennington Road (opposite the Ship pub, a few minutes walk from the Imperial War Museum), the garden and study centre is a green oasis in the city with children's activities and story-telling, demonstrations and workshops to keep them busy. The Wild Garden is the base of the London Beekeepers' Association, who run beekeeping courses and taster days. Honey is sold in our shop (when available) where you'll also find Roots and Shoots Autumn Bounty, their own apple juice, pressed on site, and other ethically sourced items.
