Walker Cricket Ground
The Walker Cricket Ground, named after the Walker family who lived at Arnos Grove on Cannon Hill, is a multi-sport environment where you can enjoy a variety of sports, not just cricket but also football, hockey, lacrosse, netball, softball, squash, racketball, rugby, and tennis. Back in 1855 the seven Walker brothers arranged for all the great teams of the day to visit the Waterfall Lane ground and play the village team. Southgate soon became the Mecca of cricket and in 1864 the Walkers founded the Middlesex County Cricket Club. Some of the clubs and players who play at the Walker Cricket Ground today play at premiership and county level but the grounds also cater for all levels of ability. There is a friendly bar available at evenings and weekends with a wide variety of drinks including cask conditioned real ales and a large plasma screen showing sports games. Catering is provided and hot and cold snacks and meals are available whenever the ground is being used for team events. The facilities are available for private hire for functions, meetings and corporate events as well as weddings and birthdays.
