The Architectural Association School of Architecture, the UK's oldest school of architecture, was originally set up in 1847 and moved to Bedford Square in 1917. Set up as a public forum and learned society, famously founded by 'a pack of troublesome students', the AA encompasses a school of contemporary architecture and hosts many public events including exhibitions, lectures, seminars, conversations, research clusters and visits. The 68,000 square feet campus takes up eight buildings on Bedford Square as well as 4 and 16 Morwell Street (behind Bedford Square) and includes formal meeting, presentation and public programme spaces on the front side facing Bedford Square gardens, a bar and restaurant and the AA Gallery.
