Sundays at Zayane, Meryem Mortell's 68-cover Moroccan restaurant on Golborne Road, mean bottomless brunch with savoury and sweet pick-me-ups from bell pepper hash with grilled asparagus to Beghrir pancakes with raspberries and honey. Head chef Chris Bower, who has come from Thackerays in Kent where he was awarded a Michelin star, is behind the menu where main courses include m ilk-fed lamb mechoui, slow-braised belly and aubergine caponata, butter poached Cornish lobster, carrot and cumin cream, and saffron marinated sea trout. Lunch is served within 60 minutes, Monday to Friday, and changes weekly, wine is bring-your-own and afternoon tea is a daily ritual from 3pm to 5pm with mint tea, coffee, Moroccan biscuits and sandwiches. Interiors, overseen by Zyane's Moroccan-born owner, have an authentic charm, with seating fabrics in burnished orange and leather, Moroccan pendant chandeliers and terracotta and midnight-blue walls. Decoratively-carved wood jali screens are off-set by vintage Denby crockery, antique cutlery and a collection of quirky condiment pots on the dining tables.
