Celebrated chef Francesco Mazzei, chef patron of Sartoria in Mayfair, has teamed up with D&D London to create Radici, an authentic Italian trattoria in Islington. He has put Antonio Mazzone, his right-hand man for over decade, in charge of the day-to-day running of the restaurant. Radici, which translates as 'roots', sees the chef going back to his native Calabria. Everything from the menu to the laid-back, modern interiors reflects Francesco's Italian heritage. Favourite dishes from his homeland appear on the menu: umido di baccala (salt cod with potatoes, tomato sauce, onions, capers and black olives); ferrazzuoli (eggless pasta with southern Italian lamb, pork and beef ragu); and involtino di fegato (calf liver stuffed with pancetta, garlic and sage, served with smoked potato mash). Pizzas and bread are freshly baked in a traditional wood fired oven in the heart of the trattoria and, in true Italian style, Sundays are for family feasts.
