Hotels near Villa Mama's

Chef and restauranteur Roaya Saleh draws on her Bahraini heritage for Villa Mama's seasonal, home-style dishes which combine flavours from the Khaleej, Persia and beyond. Having opened Villa Mama's in Bahrain six years ago, London is the next location for the sharing plates of traditional Bahraini dishes as well as recipes influenced by Roaya's travels around the world. Tandoor-cooked flatbread, served with meyhawa, slow-cooked chicken, rice and cracked wheat, and lamb and feta kofta are just some of the smaller dishes. Larger plates include turbot with pilaf and crisp onions and 'Tacheen' for two, a saffron rice cake layered with spiced chicken and pine nuts. Folding doors lead to pavement seating at the front and handmade Turkish curtains are drawn in winter. Out the back a small, hidden courtyard is lined with hexagonal terracotta tiles and filled with cooking herbs. Pedestal tables topped with Breccia violetta marble set the tone in the main dining area which seats 50. Vintage chapel chairs and colour scatter cushions complete the interior which has a reclaimed shop counter from Paris, laden with homemade jams, spices and hand-woven Bahraini baskets.
