A stone's throw from St Bart's Hospital, tucked behind Smithfield Market, LINO is a bar and all-day restaurant in a former linoleum and carpet warehouse. Wright & Bell, the people behind The Kitty Hawk, put equal emphasis on drinks and dishes with Richard Falk, formerly head chef at Clapham's much-loved The Dairy, heading up the kitchen. The bar is lined with shelves of craft spirits and jars of house ferments, to be mixed into Friday night cocktails which give witty takes on kitsch favourites like the Snowball. To eat, there's sauerkraut and montgomery cheddar croquettes and larger portions of Belted Galloway wing rib of beef, with oxtail and potato tart, for two to share. A low waste ethos feeds into the the dessert menu where left-over pastries from the breakfast kiosk are made into croissant ice cream. The building, part of the Barts Square development, retains its original brown glazed tiles on the outside. Stepping through the 12-foot high double doors you're greeted by a clover-shaped, waxed tulipwood bar while interiors in peach, salmon pink and rustic green with antique brass fixtures take on a minimalist Finnish design.
