Vic Naylor's is longer. In its place on St John Street sits the Eastside Inn, the first solo venture from Michelin-starred chef Bjorn van der Horst who honed his trade first at the Greenhouse and then at La Noisette. The venue is divided into two with a casual French bistro on one side and a modern fine-dining restaurant on the other. "The bistro is less pretentious, a bit noisier, more down to earth, and more fun," according to the Time Out review. The open kitchen in the middle of the two is where you'll find chef Bjorn putting the final touches to typically French dishes like soup a l'oignon and 'Toulouse' cassoulet. On the smart restaurant side of things you can delve into foie gras served with espresso syrup and amaretto foam as well as delicacies like braised veal sweetbreads. The Evening Standard describes it as, "a luxury restaurant obviously aiming to win a Michelin star or two." Every Thursday and Friday night at 10pm live jazz adds an element of sophistication to the ambiance with gypsy style jazz by artists like Django Reinhardt, Dexter Gordon and Benny Goodman.
