Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2013: Sou Fujimoto hotels title=
Multi award-winning Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto is the thirteenth and, at 41, youngest architect to accept the invitation to design a temporary structure for the Serpentine Gallery. The gallery's annual Serpentine Gallery Pavilion project is always an interesting prospect. Typically, a world-renowned architect is tasked with creating a structure which temporarily occupies the lawns in front of the gallery. For the 2013 commission Sou Fujimoto creates a delicate, three-dimensional structure which merges the surrounding plant life together with the construction made of fine steel bars - merging the natural and the man-made. Sou Fujimoto joins past alumni including last year's pairing of Herzog & de Meuron and Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, the team behind the highly acclaimed Beijing National Stadium; and the Olympic Aquatics Centre architect Zaha Hadid who was the first to create such a pavilion back in 2000.
