    Hotels in Barnes

One of the most desirable residential locations in London, Barnes has a reputation for its open spaces, beautiful architecture and strong community spirit. Essentially made up of two overlapping villages - one by the Thames and the other clustered around the local duck pond - Barnes boasts a number of 18th and 19th century buildings of exceptional quality and the whole neighbourhood forms part of a village conservation area. Some of the oldest (and prettiest) riverside housing in London is to be found on The Terrace, a road lined with delightful Georgian mansions which runs along the west bend of the river. Oddities on this stretch include a statue of an astronaut on a balcony near an equally baffling life-size plastic cow. Located further down towards the station and the newly restored listed Barnes Railway Bridge, The Bull's Head pub is known as the suburban Ronnie Scott's and was one of the first and most important jazz venues in Britain from the post-war years onward. The tree-lined Barnes Green hosts open-air markets and fetes in the summer and has as its centrepiece Barnes Pond, which mysteriously drained in 2001 but has been since refilled. Overlooking the pond is the popular Sun Inn pub while nearby is the superb London Wetland Centre. More
