    Soho, London

    Soho Hotels

Soho London still evokes ideas of naughtiness -colourful eccentrics, outrageous cabaret, alcoholic playwrights, sex shops, and gay bars. It's home to legends such as Ronnie Scott's jazz club and traditional pub The French House,

It still has its gritty edge, but into the mix put street fashion, traditional Italian delis, exquisite French patisserie, Berwick Street fruit and veg market, vintage record stores, karaoke, indoor golf, pop up ping pong, pavement cafes, and private members' clubs.

You'll find London's highest concentration of eateries, producing in recent year's some of London's best bars and restaurants: Barrafina, Dehesa, Milk & Honey, Mark's Bar, Hix, Yauatcha, Arbutus, and many, many more.

On Friday and Saturday nights the West End can still feel a bit overwhealming, with post-work drinkers and hen parties doing their raucous worst, but Soho's cooler bars and nightlife are helping it steal back Hoxton's crown as London's hippest hood.

Along its north and western edges are the big stores of Oxford Street and Regent Street, to the South London's main theatre strip, Shaftesbury Avenue.

It's the closest London gets to a 24 hour city and is still one of the capital's most exciting neighbourhoods.

At the Soho Hotel, hidden away in a quiet mews, you can temporarily escape the hustle and bustle while still knowing you're in the heart of it. It's one of several London hotels created by Kit Kemp in her hip urban style. From ultra modern to a touch of history - Hazlitt's, another much talked about boutique hotel in Soho, gives residents a slice of London's past. The former home of outspoken 19th century essayist William Hazlitt is a unique experience - a warren of Georgian rooms characterised by wood panelling, real fireplaces, and four poster beds.

Up towards Oxford Street, Hilton London's Courthouse Doubletree (a former magistrate's court) offers five-star rest and relaxation, along with restorative spa treatments.
