    Intercontinental, London

    London Intercontinental Hotels

The InterContinental Hotel Group includes a number of well known franchises: mid-range family hotel Holiday Inn; Express by Holiday Inn, and Crowne Plaza, both catering to the frequent business traveller; boutique venture Hotel Indigo (which has a hotel in Paddington) and Staybridge Suites serviced apartments well-known in America but as yet without a London presence.

The InterContinental brand itself is the upscale arm of the company, although Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza have an extensive network across the capital is still only UK hotel bearing the InterContinental name: London Intercontinental Hotel.

Located right on the Mayfair edge of Hyde Park Corner, it is also referred to as InterContinental Park Lane, being at the foot of the Park Lane hotel strip that includes the famous Dorchester, Grosvenor House and London Hilton hotels. As with all of the Park Lane Hotels it is a popular choice for conferences and awards ceremonies.

A five-star hotel, the InterContinental's style is chic but simple, with quality furnishings, a neutral palette and clean lines. And the food is fantastic. In-house chef is Theo Randall, former head chef of the River Cafe, who serves up what he describes as "unfussy yet utterly delicious" rustic Italian dishes. There is also the innovative Cookbook Cafe is where aspiring chefs and sommeliers come to perfect their art.

The location is ideal for the West End, Oxford Street, Victoria, Buckingham Palace, Piccadilly and Hyde Park. Although Hyde Park Corner may be one of London's busiest roundabouts, the entrance to the London InterContinental Hotel is tucked in a quiet street, orientating it towards the well-heeled streets of Mayfair rather than the hubbub of Park Lane.
