Cheap hotels in London

Staying in London has a reputation for being expensive but there are places to stay to suit all budgets, and cheap accommodation needn’t mean a box room with questionable levels of hygiene either.

We’ve picked our favourite affordable places to stay in London and found there are a surprising number of stylish yet cheap hotels in London are available.

The most obvious places for the cost conscious traveller to stay are the big budget chains which offer convenience and multiple locations but budget can also mean staying at a hip, boutique hotel. Take the RE London Shoreditch for example which, given its sleek interiors and trendy east London location, is a bargain at weekends.

You may need to travel further out of town to get a good deal but for somewhere as cool as the Church Street Hotel in Camberwell, South East London, it’s well worth the effort. A unique and cheap place to stay with Spanish American interiors, splashes of colour and complimentary breakfast served in the Havana lounge, this is one of the top ten best budget hotels in London, as voted for by The Guardian budget travel writer Dixe Wills.

But you don’t have to venture beyond the Tube map to find good quality, affordable accommodation. Apartments offer a good, cheaper alternative to hotel rooms - and it doesn’t get much better than the centrally located Studios 2 Let which offer immaculate and high quality studio apartments, situated in beautiful Bloomsbury, not far from the British Museum. Each apartment comes complete with kitchen and living area as well as free high speed internet access, laundry facilities and a weekly maid service, all at a price that will keep your bank manager happy.

In Earls Court, handily located for both the Exhibition Centre and the tube station, Twenty Nevern Square is in a quiet garden square yet the bill at the end adds up to a surprisingly small amount considering you’re checking out of a boutique feel four-star hotel.

Further west - but not ‘way out’ west - is the London House Hotel in Bayswater which, although close to the prestigious neighbourhoods of Kensington and Notting Hill and housed in a grand pillared building, still manages to provide affordable accommodation of a standard usually associated with higher class properties. If only all budget accommodation could be like this.
