More about the Millennium Bridge
This sleek, £18.2million 325m steel footbridge designed by Sir Norman Foster spans the River Thames between St Paul's Cathedral in the City and the Tate Modern gallery at Bankside. When the Millennium Bridge first opened on 10th June 2000 it became London's first new Thames crossing in more than 100 years. Between 80,000 and 100,000 people turned up to make the initial journey however it closed two days later. Its early years were beset by problems the most serious of which was the excessive swaying which became a characteristic feature of every crossing giving rise to the nickname: 'The Wobbly Bridge'. A more flattering alternative is the 'Blade of Light'. Having identified the source of the problem as people walking the 'wrong way' the bridge was finally re-opened to the public in February 2002. It now forms a stunning architectural feature, providing a great access route across the Thames and linking up many of London's riverside attractions.Best for:Combining architecture with access, linking the old and the new.

Huge thanks to you once again, I tried to find a group hotel deal online but was unable to; LondonTown really did an excellent job

I just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU for all your tremendously patient help over the last few months. We had a really successful conference, and all the reports I heard of the hotel and the whole experience were really positive. I do hope we weren’t too much trouble, especially with all the constant changes of numbers etc! Do just let me know if there’s still any follow-up to be done, but otherwise thanks again for your great work

In the midst of the peak tourist season, LondonTown within 24 hours managed to find me three alternatives for a group business booking in central London, all at great rates. It would have taken me days to do this on my own, even if I’d known all the hotels to approach. Great time and money saving, thanks LondonTown!
