    London's best hotel neighbourhoods

London is a big and sprawling city, and as such can seem overwhelming at first glance. In fact it is a series of distinctive London neighbourhoods, each with its own character that rewards exploration.

The West End is probably the busiest and most vibrant area of London, packed with hotels, bars, restaurants, shops, offices, and theatres. Sohos nightlife is back in the ascendant thanks to some of the capitals hippest new bars and restaurants.

Shopping in London is among the best in the world and Londons West End is also home to the flagships stores of key international brands, as well as world famous department stores such as Selfridges.

Other places in London that are particularly good for shopping are Knightsbridge for designer boutiques of Sloane Street; Spitalfields/Brick Lane for edgy new labels; Camden for street fashions; and Notting Hills Portobello Road for antiques.

At Covent Garden, another popular hotel neighbourhood of London, right next to the West End, the action is focused on the main piazza, a former fruit and veg market, but the narrow streets and former warehouses, now interesting boutiques, have a charm of their own.

Our London hotel map lists many hotels in Central London, but if you dont end up right in the heart of the West End, or if you prefer somewhere a little quieter, there are many other characterful central areas London can offer.

South Kensington is known for its museums among the most popular places to visit in London but it also has elegant streets, continental cafes, and excellent shops, especially those focusing on design and homewares.

Among the other central areas of London, Knightsbridge and Mayfair are famed for being the most well-heeled. Residents are rich, buildings are well-kept, restaurants are fancy, and shops are chi-chi.

The City and Docklands are the capitals business hubs, but have very different characters. The City is the historic heart of the capital; tall glass and steel towers sit next to ornate churches, old fashioned pubs, and even the old Roman wall. It also has some of the top things to do in London: St Pauls Cathedral, the Tower of London, the Museum of London, and the Monument. The Docklands meanwhile is a brand new neighbourhood of London, built out to the east around the old docks giving it a unique waterfront vibe.

All of these Central London neighborhoods are well served by a range of hotels. Use our London hotel map to see whats available in your chosen area of London and get some great deals.
